Jaya gets notice on gift case
  Feb 22, 2012 8.00 AM

In the 1992 gift case the CBI has challenged the decision of the Madras High Court to quash the case against her. In September 2011 the case against her was quashed stating delay from the CBI. It mat be noted that the complaint was lodged on October 1996 and the chargesheet was filed only in July 2006.

The CBI has put forward an argument before the Supreme Court that the delay was caused due to procedural formalities. CBI said they had to conduct investigation in US, UK and UAE and this is also a reason for the delay.

Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice SS Nijjar said that there was no delay from the CBI to prosecute her and issued a notice to Jayalalithaa on this issue.
