  Jan 27, 2011 7.00 AM

Jayalalithaa was in Nagapattinam on Wednesday to offer her condolences to the family of a fisherman killed by the Sri Lankan Navy a few days ago. Such cruel attacks by Sri Lanka could only be attributed to the weak Central and State governments. She recalled her position on the ceding of Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka under the 1974 accord as illegal. She said that the gifting away of the island in the Palk Strait to Sri Lanka was never ratified by Parliament and her petition seeking annulment of the transfer was pending in the Supreme Court.

The AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa called upon the coastal communities in Tamil Nadu to vote for the regime that would guarantee the security and safety of their lot.She handed over a solatium of Rs.1 lakh to the wife of the victim. She promised assistance for the education of his two daughters (six months old and two years old).
