Republic Day celebrations in Chennai

Mayor M. Subramanian hoisted the tricolour at Ripon Building to mark the Republic Day celebrations in the city on Wednesday. Three employees of the Chennai Corporation received cash awards for their contributions towards using Tamil in official communication and files. The Mayor distributed cash under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Assistance Scheme and the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Assistance Scheme. Chennai Primary School, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai Middle School, Arumbakkam and Chennai Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur received awards for creating awareness about tree plantation and conservation of nature.

Students received prizes for cultural competition from Governor Surjit Singh Barnala. A total of 24 employees of various departments were honoured for exemplary work. Triplicane Zone received the award for collection of property tax. Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan was present. Transport Secretary Rameshram Mishra hoisted the national flag at Pallavan House. 25 bus conductors were honoured for displaying honesty at work. 51 drivers received prizes for contributing towards increasing fuel efficiency. MTC Managing Director V. Babu participated. At Sevalaya, a blood donation camp was organised on the occasion of Republic Day.
