The Directorate of Public Libraries convened in Chennai on Wednesday to decide on the public membership fee since the Anna Centenary Library has grown leaps and bounds with nearly 7 lakh books in the shelves. The library receives nearly 1,200 visitors everyday and 3,500 during weekends. The sections created exclusively for children and Tamil Literature, which was open to the public two months ago have become a big hit with the visitors.

This library also has the vision of a research library with 2,500 periodicals from 95 countries and there is a cyber cafe, lounge, reading room and also houses manuscripts and publications on engineering and technology. The Directorate would keenly monitor the membership application to allow specific access to the members. The network system to facilitate hassle-free access to details is due to be launched next month.
