The AIADMK was the first to announce their candidate for the Sankarankoil by election. S Muthuselvi was announced the candidate. The DMK has announced Jawahar Suryakumar as their candidate and the Congress has extended its support to the DMK. Meanwhile the MDMK has announced Dr Sathan Thirumalai Kumar as the candidate for Sankarankoil constituency on Sunday.

The only party left out was DMDK and the party chief Vijayakanth announced K Muthukumar as the contestant at the party’s general council meeting. Muthukumar is the deputy secretary of the Tirunelveli district unit.
