Again, the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh has been cornered with yet another scam that lay buried under the coal mines. The allegations were drawn from a draft created by the Comptroller and Auditor Generals (CAG) on coal mining.

According to the report, India lost up to $210 billion in revenue by selling coal deposits too cheaply. This sum is almost 6 times the amount involved in the 2G spectrum. The report also said that instead of auctioning the coal fields to the highest bidder, the government allocated 100 of the 155 coalmines to private miners and the rest to a few state run miners, thereby under-valuing coal by at least Rs.10.67 trillion.

Commenting on the allegations, coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said, “We are examining the news report and I have called for records. After that I will reply”. However, Sriprakash Jaiswal claims he wasn’t the coal minister during the period under scrutiny. Vekaiyah Naidu, a senior leader of BJP said, “This is the mother of all scams. The Prime Minister should reply."
