The death of two Indian fishermen by the Italian shooters on board of Enrica Lexie mistaking them to be Somali pirates did not go well with the external ministry in New Delhi. It summoned the Italian Ambassador Giacomo Monteforte to keep Italy informed that criminal proceedings will be initiated on the shooters.

Speaking on this incident the defense minister A K Anthony said that the incident is unfortunate. In this connection a high level meeting will be convened between the Italian and Kerala governments to decide on further course of action.
