  TN fishermen killed mistaken for Somali pirates

Two fishermen from Tamil Nadu were shot dead by security personnel belonging to Italian oil tanker Enrica Lexie. The fishermen had laid their nets for the catch and the Italians suspecting them to be Somali pirates shot at them in which two fishermen died around 14 nautical miles off the Alappuzha coast at around 4.30 pm. One of the dead was identified as Ajeesh Bingu from Erayumanthurai Kanyakumari district.

 

The boat was owned by John Bosco of Colachel and the other fisherman has been identified as Jalesthin. The coast guard ships Samar and Lakshmi Bai along with an aircraft called Enrica Lexie for anchorage and investigation is on.
