Pop icon Whitney Houston was laid to rest and the funeral service that was held at New Hope Baptist Church, in Newark, New Jersey. Celebrities had gathered to bid good bye to the star among them were Mariah Carey, Oprah Winfrey, Queen Latifah and others. Whitney’s mother Cissy Houston and daughter Bobbi Kristina were also present. Steve Wonder sang Love’s In Need of Love Today. Ex-husband Bobby Brown also paid his last respects to the star. Kevin Costner addressed the gathering.

Houston’s body was flown from California where she was found dead at the Beverly Hill Hotel about a week ago. Whitney died after taking lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol and the investigation did not reveal any foul play.

Whitney was laid in a platinum coffin with gold handles. The coffin with Whitney’s body made through the streets of Newark where she grew.
