AIADMK manifesto
Apr 18, 2009 03:25 PM

The AIADMK’s election manifesto which was released on Thursday holds some similarity to the BJP ideology, where the manifesto speaks about scrapping the Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal project (SSCP). Though her allies are for the project, the AIADMK chief has come out vehemently against it. She has been constantly voicing her opinion that the project had benefited only T R Balu, the Union Minister of Shipping and the chief minister’s family.

The 36 page manifesto talks of all salaried employees to be exempted from Income Tax and also recommends Fringe benefit tax (FBT) and Banking Cash Transaction Tax. It says that SEZs should not be on arable land. On the agricultural side it suggests not to encourage genetically modified seed.

Other highlights of the manifesto are legislative women’s reservation bill, scrap Indo-US nuclear deal, death penalty for rapists, creation of World Tamils Center in Tamil Nadu for courses in classical Tamil and controlling recession with the help of economic experts.
