Was it ragging or group fight – Coimbatore incident
Apr 15, 2009 09:45 AM

Akhil Dev’s case has taken a new dimension with the college authorities calling it a group fight. According to the probe conducted by the HoD of Commerce department of the PSG College of Arts and Science, the incident was a group fight and not ragging.

The probe led to the following inference: Akhil was asked to leave his flat by the landlord and hence came to stay with his senior Rameez, who was at that time hospitalized. Later, when Rameez was discharged from the hospital he wanted to take possession of the flat and asked Akhil and his friend Tony to look for an alternative accommodation. This sparked a tiff between the two. Later, five of Rameez’s classmates came to his help which led to a fight between Akhil and Rameez’s friend.

The college authorities blame Akhil, as he was also responsible for the incident. But a clear picture will emerge only after interrogation, states DCP, K Shanmugavel.
