Apr 22, 2009 04:00 PM

The war of words has forced the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to call for a 12-hour bandh in the state, to pressurize the centre to stop war in Sri Lanka. He also called all the political parties to join the bandh.

The CM has asked the centre to give an ultimatum to the Sri Lankan Government for immediate and permanent ceasefire. He also added that now the priority is to stop the war and not banning the LTTE.

Bandh

On the contrary, the Congress stated that the bandh was not to stop the war but as an act of empathy for the condition of Tamils in the island nation.

The bandh announcement comes after the telegrams were sent to the leaders at the centre seeking government enforcement for a ceasefire in the war ravaged island nation.
