Karuna and Balu let out in 2007 bandh case

The petition filed by the AIADMK against Chief Minister Karunanidhi and the Union Minister of Shipping and Surface Transport T R Balu and four others for disobeying the court orders by not preventing the bandh organized on October 1, for the implementation of the Sethusamudram project was dismissed by the Supreme Court yesterday.

The Supreme Court Division Bench comprising of Justice B N Agarwal and Justice G S Singhvi gave the

judgment in the case. The Bench stated that Karunanidhi had issued orders to all the officers to make sure that law and order was held in the state and essential services maintained. The judge also felt that the petitioner did not have sufficient evidence for the speech made by the Union Minister of Shipping and Surface Transport T R Balu and hence dismissed the case.
