Apr 18, 2009 03:25 PM

The Chief Minister M Karunanidhi yesterday sent telegrams to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and External affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee asking the Government of India to cut off all ties with the Sri Lankan government if they do not heed to ceasefire.

His telegram reads, “If the appeal for ceasefire is not honoured and implemented by the Sri Lanka government, we request the government of India to snap all diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka.”

Mr Karunanidhi also welcomed the appeal made by the External affairs ministry for extension of ceasefire in the NFZ after April 14. But it is known that the Rajapakse government did not heed to the request.

The snap call has come a day after the AIADMK alliance's accusation of the DMK-Congress government for negligence of the Sri Lankan issue.
