The final eight km, where the LTTE are suspected to be holed up, is being combed by the Sri Lankan army. The sea routes have been blocked by the navy to stop the escape of the rebels.

Sri Lankan Army chief Sarath Foneska stated that the army is now fully aware where Prabhakaran could be hiding. It is believed that a group of around 800 tigers are still fighting in the jungle. The army is facing a very tough challenge from the rebels.
