Nehru’s statue knocked off – Who is responsible?
Apr 11, 2009 03:55 PM

The 45 kg metal bust of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was knocked off its pedestal near the Indian High Commission two days ago. The British police suspect that Sri Lankan Tamil protesters may be responsible for the incident. Meanwhile, the high Commission has not blamed any particular group for the incident.

The metal statue was unveiled in the 1990s by L M Singhvi, the then High Commissioner of India and the Mayor of London. The statue is now in the custody of

the India House. So far no group has claimed responsibility.

Earlier, there was a clash between the British police and Tamil protestors on April 7, demanding international intervention to stop the genocide in the northern islands of Sri Lanka.
