The CPI (M) Madurai candidate for the 2009 Lok Sabha election P Mohan was hospitalized following severe stomach ache. He was earlier admitted at the Apollo Hospital, Madurai and later shifted to Apollo Hospital, Chennai to undergo an emergency abdominal surgery.

The CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat and N Ram Editor, The Hindu met P Mohan at the hospital to wish him well. Later, Dr Neelamegam briefed Karat about the treatment offered to the CPI (M) candidate. T K Rangarajan MP accompanied Mr Karat during this visit.
