Why Vaiko was not arrested?

All eyes are on the ruling DMK, on why Vaiko was not arrested after sedition case was registered against him under section 13(1) of the Unlawful Activities Amendment Act, 2004, and Section 124-A and Section 505 (1) (b) of the IPC for statement like ‘bloodbath in the state’ and ‘unity of India at stake’. In spite of obtaining legal opinion no action has been taken.

Sources in the government say that the police were not ordered to arrest Vaiko on the said charges

Vaiko
because the DMK government did not want to pave way for sympathy votes for MDMK in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

A senior official stated that though a case was registered, an arrest will not be made for the time being.

The MDMK leader also said that he had no intention to do anything that would harm India’s unity and he had only reflected what the people feel about the Sri Lankan issue.
