The MDMK chief Vaiko released his party manifesto
at a press conference on Sunday. The manifesto
highlights the implementation of Sethu Canal
project, formation of separate Eelam and lifting
the ban on LTTE, reservation for Muslims in
education and employment, autonomy for the
state, developing agriculture sector and to
find a solution for power crisis in the state.
Carefully dealing with the Sethu canal project
when the press asked about the difference
of opinion among its alliance partner AIADMK,
he stated, “In a democratic country
it is not possible for the alliance partners
to have the same policy and approach on every
issue.” He also added that certain modifications
will be made to the project without hurting
the sentiments of a particular community.
Vaiko said that AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa
is a fit candidate for prime minister’s
post. He said that his party would support
her when the occasion arises. Speaking high
of Jayalalithaa he said, “She can deliver
her thoughts to the people of India in different
languages. She is a fit candidate for the
PM’s post.” He also added that
even though she does not have the aspirations
to become Prime Minister, MDMK will raise
its voice when the situation arises, vouched
