  Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) managing director N Shankar Reddy said that the State-run Beverages Corporation (BevCo) is expecting the sales figures to touch new heights during the festival days. “We are expecting an increase of 20 percent in the sale of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) during the Onam days, compared to last year’s sales figures,”.

The 337 KSBC outlets had sold IMFL worth INR 34.13 crore. During the Thiruvonam day and Avittam day in 2009, the BevCo sold liquor worth INR 22.08 crore and INR 19.96 crore, respectively he said comparing during the Uthradam day last year

Reddy said rum is the all-time favorite drink of Malayalis. “Among the total volume of IMFL sold in a year, 54 percent is rum, 40 percent is brandy and nearly 5 percent is vodka and gin. “Only one percent is the sale of whisky annually.”
