Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran
has said that he was strictly against any kind of ‘moral policing',
and that policemen must always remember to observe “discretion”
and a sense of proportion.
Rajendran admitted that there was a huge mismatch between the expectation
of the public and “what police actually does”. He said “certain
kinds of criminals who have become larger than the system” cannot
be tackled using laws that were codified in the 1860s and 70s he
said this while delivering a lecture on the challenges in ‘Policing
the city ' organized as part of the Madras Heritage Lecture series.
The programme was organized as part of Madras Week celebrations.
