The outspoken Congress leader EVKS Elangovan met DMDK founder and Actor Vijayakanth on his 58th birthday on Wednesday in the city and wished him a great political career has fuelled speculations that the Congress may go in for a political tie up with DMDK in the state.

The meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of the latter’s invitation to political parties, sans the DMK and AIADMK, to form a third front in State.

When questioned on his meeting with Vijayakanth, Elangovan said that Vijayakanth was a long time friend and there was no political significance to his meeting with the DMDK leader. “There is nothing new in me greeting him. He is an old friend and I wished him all success in his political career.”

Several political including CPI (M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan, CPI State Secretary D Pandian and BJP State president Pon Radhakrishnan greeted Vijayakanth over phone.

Earlier in the day Vijayakanth accompanied by his spouse, Premalatha, and sons and offered special prayers, cut a cake and interacted with cadre. Jubilant DMDK members began pouring in to Vijayakanth’s house in Virugambakkam and greeted their leader on his birthday. The day was observed as ‘Poverty Eradication Day’ by them.
