AIADMK leader Ms. J. Jayalalithaa on Monday boycotted a meeting of the selection committee under chief minister M Karunanidhi’s chairmanship to choose the state’s new chief information commissioner (CIC). Ms. J. Jayalalithaa skipped the meeting saying she was denied advance information about the candidates being considered for the post sources said.

Karunanidhi and finance minister K Anbazhagan, the other member of the selection panel, met to discuss the appointment. Jayalalithaa is the other member of the committee.

Sources said, ‘’After being invited for the meeting Jayalalithaa had demanded for the names in advance but the government declined it and asked her to attend the meeting. “In protest she decided not to attend the meeting. Ms. Jayalalithaa had said she cannot give any views unless names are given to her first”.

Earlier RTI activists had met Jayalalithaa to oppose the possible appointment of chief secretary KS Sripathi, who is due to retire in October, as the chief information commissioner. It could not be said if his name had been considered at the meeting.
