AIADMK leader has warned the state government that if the Chief Information Commissioner is chosen without her presence under the Right to Information Act it would be ‘illegal’.

Jaya further said, "It would be contrary to law to make any appointment after brushing aside my request, as a committee member, for prior information about the names and bio-data of candidates being considered for appointment as CIC".

Jayalalithaa lashed out at chief minister M Karunanidhi for criticizing her absence at the meeting and concealing the fact that she had kept away from it only after her request for details about the applicants had been refused.

Ms. J. Jayalalithaa added further that she had planned to attend the meet. When RTI activists and voluntary organizations met her to complain about the functioning of the information commission, delay in disposal of petitions and lack of transparency in appointing the CIC, she had asked for the bio-data of those being considered for appointment. "However instead of giving me the information I got a reply which said all applications will be placed before the panel meeting on Monday.
