Citing the examples of film personalities Rajinikanth and Prithviraj Kapoor entering Politics Chief Minister M Karunanidhi defended his family members entering Politics.

He denied that his government was giving sops to the Tamil film industry because his family had entered it.

The CM was reacting to a newspaper cartoon saying: “For the first time in the history of Kalaignar, a brand new film written by Kalaignar, produced by Kalaignar’s grandson, directed by Kalaignar’s grandson and starring Kalaignar’s grandson to play on television for the first time on Kalaignar TV.”

“Only people with politics on their minds make these kinds of comments. The CM asked shouldn’t Kalaignar have children or grandchildren? Shouldn’t they be allowed to come into films if they please?” wondered Karunanidhi. The DMK chief said he and his family members were being targeted because he was part of the Dravidian movement.

CM M Karunanidhi made these comments after laying the foundation stone for the massive housing project for film industry workers. Several actors including Rajnikanth, Mammootty and Jithendra and others participated in the function.
