The Reserve Bank of India is contemplating issuing currency notes made of plastic. A discussion in this regard will be held with the public to gauge their reaction. The RBI decided to opt for plastic currency following reports that rupees notes of the denomination 5, 10 and 20, which are made of paper, are getting soiled very easily. The plastic currency is expected to have longer life if replaced. To begin with, the RBI may issue plastic currency notes of 10 rupee denomination.
