Michael Phelps left free
February 17, 2009
The controversial photograph of Michael Phelps, ace American swimmer with a marijuana pipe received undue attention earlier leading to a three month ban.

At a party during the month of November Phelps was photographed with a pipe that led to a three month ban. According to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lett, “Having thoroughly investigated this matter, we do not believe we have enough evidence to prosecute anyone that was presented at the November party.”

The record holder for eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics was holding a bong in a photograph taken for a British newspaper two weeks ago.

The sponsorship deal with Cerealmaker Kelloggs was cancelled following the ban.

The bong in the display was to be auctioned by eBay for a whopping $100,000.

Lett is quoted to have stated, “How can we teach our kids... not to do drugs, then look away when it's an important person?” This was the reply given when criticized for his approach towards Phelps.
