The Australian Open mixed doubles was won by Leander Paes (India) and Cara Black (Zimbabwe) on Sunday by defeating their rivals Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) and Jaroslav Levinsky (Czechoslovakia) 7-5, 6-3.

With this title, Leander becomes the most Grand Slam title winner in India equaling Mahesh Bhupathi’s score. He holds six Grand Slam doubles titles and five Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.

Cara Black lost the women’s doubles to the Williams’ sisters pairing with Liezel Huber.

Leander Paes and Cara Black duo have held the US Open Cup in the year 2008.

Speaking after his victory, Paes said, “I want to thank fans in India and those who came here to support us. Tennis is our bread and butter but most important is that you make relations. Cara, I am blessed to have you as my partner. Thanks for supporting me.”
