February 02, 2010 02:13 PM

Leander Paes, who recently won the mixed doubles in the Australian Open held at Melbourne, will now star in a Bollywood film.

Paes has been signed up by a Bollywood production house for a hero’s role.

Hiranmoy Chatterjee, Bengal Tennis Association Secretary, confirmed the news stating, “Paes has decided to take up a full-time career in Hindi films after he quits tennis. To start with, he has got an offer to play the hero in a movie.”

Chatterjee added that Paes will be in Kolkata for the shooting. It may be mentioned here that Chatterjee is a close associate of the tennis super star.

For the past one and half years, Paes has been taking acting lessons at the Anupam Kher’s institute and learning Hindi language too.

The name of the film and the director is still kept a secret.
