Passenger train between Katpadi and Villupuram by March

February 05, 2010 02:21 PM

The general Manager of Southern Railway, Deepak Kishan has announced that the Southern Railway will launch a new passenger train on the 160-km Katpadi-Villupuram broad gauge route.

He travelled from Katpadi to Villupuram in six different coaches to check the track conditions. After the inspection he said that the track is good for passenger trains but not for regular trips.

He also said that some good trains will be operated in this route by the end of February to test its conditions.

After the inspection he said, “The track is safe for passenger traffic but not good enough to run regular passenger trains. Since this is a new track, it has to stabilize. Goods trains will be operated in this section before the end of February. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will then conduct inspection and go into details before certifying the track fit for passenger traffic. The track, in the meantime, will stabilize.”
