With
the Indian government issuing a travel
advisory for its students in Australia,
the Australian government has now
decided to focus more on high skilled
jobs than on issuing visas for vocational
courses.
Around 20,000 migrants will now be
left out, as the Australian government
will focus only on high skilled jobs
that will help in developing the economy
of the nation.
The Australian mining sector welcomed
the move as they are running short
of skilled workers to meet China’s
demands.
This will be a major drawback for
the Indian students as Australia has
put a check on Indian students who
go there for vocational courses and
seek residency in the country. With
the growing concerns over the recent
racial attacks and the bad media publicity,
the focus now has shifted to high
skilled jobs as the government feels
that most of them take up vocational
training courses like hairdressing,
catering etc., to gain permanent residency.
Speaking on this, the Immigration
Minister Chris Evans said, “We
want to make sure we're getting the
high-end applicants.”
He added that concentration would
be on doctors, nurses, engineers and
miners.
