Dear John pushes Avatar out

James Cameron’s Avatar has been pushed out of the top spot with Dear John, a romantic drama taking on the science fiction Avatar. The rally will be on for a few more weeks, it is expected.

The movie has attracted huge number of female moviegoers in the age group of below 21 years.

The film has made $32.4 million within a span of three days, whereas the distributors Screen Gems had expected only $20 million due to the football championship match in Miami, which was to be broadcasted on television.

Dear John has Channing Tatum and Amanda Siegfried in the lead and the film revolves around the September 11 attacks. The film is based on a book, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and is directed by Lasse Hallstrom, a Swedish filmmaker.
