America issues warning on traveling to India

January 30, 2010 05:53 PM

The United States published an alert for Americans travelling to India, saying Washington continues receiving information about terrorist groups planning attacks against India.

The U.S. State Department reported in its latest terror alert, that, “The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to ongoing security concerns in India. The U.S. government continues to receive information that terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India.”

“Terrorists and their sympathizers have demonstrated their willingness and capability to attack targets where Americans or Westerners are known to congregate or visit,” report said.

In November 2008, six Americans were among 166 people who were killed by 10 gunmen who targeted hotels, a train station and other locations in the Indian commercial capital of Mumbai.

“U.S. citizens are advised to monitor local news reports and consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, or choosing hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues,” report added.
