Former
Union Minister and senior Congress
leader Ram Nivas Mirdha passed away
in New Delhi after a brief illness.
Mirdha, a former Speaker of Rajasthan
Assembly had been admitted to the
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, on
January 21 for treatment of a kidney
ailment.
Dr D S Rana, Consultant, Department
of Nephrology of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital,
said, "He passed away at around
12:45 pm following multiple organ
failure."
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had
visited the hospital on Friday morning,
while the Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh had gone there last night.
Mirdha was 87. He is survived by two
sons and a daughter. His eldest son
Rajendra Mirdha, had passed away on
the same date last year.
His granddaughter Jyoti Mirdha is
the present MP from Nagaur Lok Sabha
seat.
