The
Pakistan government on Thursday handed
over to India a list of Indian prisoners
currently being held in the country’s
jails. The list includes 585 Indians.
With provisions of the Agreement on
Consular Access signed by the two
countries in May last year, India
and Pakistan are required to exchange
lists of prisoners in each other’s
custody on January 1 and July 1 every
year.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has
said that the list of Indian prisoners
was handed over to an official of
the Indian High Commission.
The statement how ever does not reveal
the exact number of prisoners.
Our sources say the list has 585 prisoners
which include 535 fishermen, 41 other
prisoners and nine juvenile prisoners.
