Air
India flight accommodated three extra
passengers on a Mumbai-Mangalore flight
on May 5. While one was allowed to
sit in the cockpit’s jump seat
two others were accommodated on the
foldable seats meant for the cabin
crew. The area is actually restricted
for passengers.
The incident came to light when the
Directorate General of Civil Aviation
(DGCA) noticed damages on the aircraft
door.
The DGCA may take criminal action
against Air India for breaking the
safety norms. The violation could
mean the Airline is not entitled for
any compensation if anything untoward
happens.
Apart from violating the safety norms,
the airlines also has put the lives
of passengers in danger by over loading
the plane that could have led to weight
imbalance.
Another allegation is on the issue
of boarding passes. The computerized
boarding pass will automatically stop
once the flight is full; this means
the passes were issued manually to
accommodate the three extra passengers
on board.
