Burger
King Corporation (BKC), an internationally
renowned fast food chain of restaurants,
has issued an apology statement for
offending the sentiments of the Hindus.
The Burger King Chain in Spain was
running a print advertisement in its
stores in which an image of Goddess
Lakshmi sitting on top of a meat sandwich
with a tag line, ‘A snack that’s
sacred,” in Spanish was being
played.
The Hindu American Foundation (HAF)
asked the BKC to remove the advertisement
as it is offensive.
In reply an apology statement that
was issued by Denise T Wilson spokesman
for Burger King, “We are apologizing
because it wasn't our intent to offend
anyone. Burger King Corporation (BKC)
values and respects all of its guests
as well as the communities we serve.
This in-store advertisement was running
to support only local promotion for
three restaurants in Spain and was
not intended to offend anyone.”
The HAF has welcomed the immediate
step taken by BKC.
