First a bridge collapse at the Delhi Metro rail construction site and now three cranes collapsed at the same accident site while clearing the debris. The accident on Sunday killed 6 workers and 4 workers were injured in the Monday morning accident.

The cranes buckled under weight while trying to lift the orange girders. It fell on the building and the slum clusters. The crane ended up in a vertical position resulting in the arms of the crane being mauled and flattened.

The four injured workers were admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Center.

The clearing operations have come to a stand still following the recent accident. It was earlier anticipated that the site would be cleared by 1600 hrs. Now there is no idea when the debris would be cleared and normal traffic restored.

Meanwhile, the resignation of E Sreedharan the Metro chief has not been accepted by the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister stated, “The Metro needs him. He has done a good job not only in Delhi but throughout the country. Hence, I have not accepted his resignation.”
