Cars that talk developed by Indians

July 14 2009 06:42 PM

Scientists of Indian origin Dr. Bhibhya Sharma and Dr. Utesh Chand of University of South Pacific have developed a set of algorithms for robotic cars to communicate with each other to prevent collision.

They, also, have designed equations to instruct the cars to merge lanes to ease out traffic congestions.

Explaining his program, Dr. Sharma stated, “Flocking is a biologically inspired technique and a strategy commonly used in robotics. One of the advantages of flocking is that robots can work together and achieve what would take individuals far longer.”

The team of scientists demonstrated the technique using two wheel robots.

The findings of these scientists were presented at the first Rim Mathematical Association (PRIMA) conference in Sydney.
