‘Daily
Star’ a London-based newspaper
reported of a 26/11 like attack on
London’s tourist stops.
The newspaper claimed that boats laden
with explosives were sent down the
Thames River to target popular tourist
destinations in London. Following
this, a red alert was issued for Islamic
fanatics.
Some of the prominent places under
threat are the Houses of Parliament,
the London Eye and Canary Wharf figure.
Apart from this, 100 key sites were
also listed under the threat category.
Sergeant Mark Spurgeon stated, “Protecting
London from terrorists is now our
primary objective. There are a number
of high-profile buildings like the
Houses of Parliament and the London
Eye that could be targeted at any
time. We are stepping up patrols on
the Thames and stopping and searching
boats for weapons and suspicious packages.”
The Mumbai terror attack has shown
how waterways could be used by terrorists
to transport arms and ammunitions.
The Met Marine Support Units has tightened
security around the river area to
stop any such untoward incidents.
