‘Daily Star’ a London-based newspaper reported of a 26/11 like attack on London’s tourist stops.

The newspaper claimed that boats laden with explosives were sent down the Thames River to target popular tourist destinations in London. Following this, a red alert was issued for Islamic fanatics.

Some of the prominent places under threat are the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and Canary Wharf figure. Apart from this, 100 key sites were also listed under the threat category.

Sergeant Mark Spurgeon stated, “Protecting London from terrorists is now our primary objective. There are a number of high-profile buildings like the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye that could be targeted at any time. We are stepping up patrols on the Thames and stopping and searching boats for weapons and suspicious packages.”

The Mumbai terror attack has shown how waterways could be used by terrorists to transport arms and ammunitions.

The Met Marine Support Units has tightened security around the river area to stop any such untoward incidents.
