Army men say ‘Yes sir’ to poll rigging
June 04 2009 09:40 AM

In a shocking revelation by the Election Commissioner (EC) SY Quraishi, members of a political party bribed Army officers to rig the LS polls that were conducted last month.

The incident came to light in the state of Punjab where a commanding officer ordered his soldiers to vote for a particular party. The EC did not let out the name of the party. This was mentioned at the House of Commons in London, where the EC gave a presentation on the world’s largest democratic exercise.

Quraishi said, “We realised that the commanding officers of these forces were being approached by a political party and they were being bribed. And these soldiers had been told to just say ‘yes sir’.”

It is a rule in the Army to say ‘yes sir’ to their higher officers and one cannot expect anything else other than obeying the commands of their senior officers.
