No entertainment tax, says TN CM

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has decided to continue with the entertainment tax exemption in the state considering the welfare of the film industry.

The Chief Minister, who attended the movie launch function of Nee Indri Nan Illai said, “Though the State government has been losing revenue of Rs. 50 crore every year by way of entertainment tax exemption, we are committed to continue with it for the welfare of the industry.”

The film is based on the CM’s novel Surulimalai. The story, screenplay and dialogues are by Karunanidhi and the movie is directed by Ilavenil and produced by Arumuganeri Murugesan.

The revenue from the film will go to deprived senior artistes in the Nadigar Sangam, stated the Chief Minister.

Kamal Haasan, who was also present for the launch function, said that it was only Karunanidhi’s Parasakthi dialogues that got him entry into the AVM studios.

Others prominent personalities present for the function are Manorama, Vivek, AVM Saravanan and FEFSI president VC Guganathan.
