Torn
by terror attacks and exposed to economic
crisis, Pakistan now stands among
top failed states, according to a
table compiled by Foreign Policy Journal.
Pakistan takes the tenth place in
the index, last year it was placed
ninth.
The journal publishes this index every
year and it is jointly researched
by Fund for Peace, a research organization.
Some of the factors considered while
compiling the list are demographic
pressure, refugees/internally displaced
persons (IDPs), group grievance, uneven
development, economic decline, delegitimization
of the state, public service, human
rights, factionalized elites and external
intervention.
The ten countries that feature in
the lis,t according to their position
are: Somalia, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Chad,
Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq,
Afghanistan, Central African Republic,
Guinea and Pakistan.
India is ranked 87 out of 177 countries
that were under study. In the Indian
subcontinent, Sri Lanka is placed
at 12, Bangladesh at 19 and Nepal
at 25.
The last ten countries on the list
are Norway, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland,
Ireland, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia
and The Netherlands.
