Three tons of iron rods came crashing on a former Ambattur Municipality DMK councilor, K Srinivasan which led to his instant death when he was riding a two-wheeler. Reportedly, the iron cable of the crane snapped which led to the mishap. Six people were injured in the accident. The tragedy occurred at the yet to be constructed elevated highway in Ambattur Industrial estate on Monday.

The Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) was in

HCC
charge of the construction of a flyover in the area. The locals accused the company for not putting up warning signals for the motorists. Moreover, no security personnel were posted near the site it was stated by the localities.

The construction company fearing a public outcry stopped the work in progress temporarily. The HCC officials stated that the nature of the accident will be investigated and work will be halted until then.

The HCC official added, “Work on this 3-km stretch will resume only after the completion of an inquiry by the safety department of HCC.” He also added, “They don’t pay attention to the security staff posted here. We cannot block the traffic as there is no alternative road.”

However, the workers were seen making a silent exit soon after the incident on lookers said.
