Ragging on campus, no government funds

Colleges that do not take necessary steps to put an end to ragging will be taken off the government aid list, held the Supreme Court on Monday.

Justice Arijit Pasayat said, “Time has come for cutting off financial aid to these institutions which are not complying with the directions.”

Notices were issued against the Principal and Registrar of Rajendra Prasad Medical College,Kangra

where a student was beaten to death in the name of ragging and also to the Registrar and Principal of Bapatla Agriculture and Engineering College in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh where a student attempted suicide as she was asked to strip and dance as part of a ragging exercise. The SC has given time till March 30 to file responses.
