Early tip-off in vain

Intelligence agencies had warned about a possible attack outside the Gaddafi Stadium as early as January 22. The local security agencies had been given advance information about the possible attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. There were specific inputs that they may be attacked in their hotel or en route to the stadium.

But this is not the one-off case where information was given in advance. Even the Mumbai attacks were

signaled in advance, but no action was taking leading to the bloodbath in Mumbai and now in Lahore. Even the Kabul, Indian embassy attack in July last year was also predicted but in vain.

The ICC match referee Chris Broad stated that, “There was not a sign of a policeman anywhere, they had clearly left the scene and left us to be sitting ducks.”

The Pakistan cricket authorities stated that the team was escorted by police vehicle on all sides, but used the same route each day.
