Ministry rejects IPL schedule
Mar 06, 2009

The IPL schedule sent yesterday was rejected by the state police heads keeping in mind the impending elections and the attack on the Sri Lankan players on Tuesday. In spite of sending a schedule with no matches clashing with the election dates the proposal was rejected.

The Director General of Police stated that with elections and the games scheduled so close it would be difficult to provide security cover for the games.

Even the Ministry for Home Affairs was not happy with the dates as private security may not be a perfect solution.

Police officials of different states where the matches are likely to be held are uncomfortable with two major events taking place around the same time. Hence, they want a change in schedule.
