Death toll rises due to lack of medicines in Sri Lanka

Lack of medicines is killing more people in the war-torn island nation. It is estimated that nearly 500 patients died due to lack of medicines, says a health official.

The Ministry of Health also complained that only 5% of the required medicines arrived last year. These facts were stated in a letter and were signed by the health officers of Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi.

It was expressed in the letter that 500 people died in the hospitals and several thousands could have died on their way to the hospitals. It was also added that had the infrastructure facilities and medicines been in place, these deaths could have been prevented.
