Election dates announced

The much awaited Lok Sabha election dates have been announced. The country will go to polls in five phases between April 16 and May 13. The counting date has been fixed on May 16. This was announced by the Election Commission on Monday.

Jammu and Kashmir will experience five-phased polls, Bihar four-phased ballot, Maharashtra and West Bengal, three-phased polls, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur,

Lok Sabha
Orissa and Punjab will witness two-phases each. The remaining 15 states and union territories will see only single polling.

The counting is scheduled on May 16 and the new Lok Sabha will be set up by 2nd June. The first phase is planned on April 16 where 124 constituencies go for poll, the second on April 23 for 141 constituencies, on April 30, third phase polls will be conducted for 107 seats, fourth phase on May 7 for 85 constituencies and the final phase on May 13 for 86 constituencies.

It is stated that around 71.4 crore will vote this year when compared to last figures of 67.1 crore.

Assembly elections for Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh will also be conducted along with Lok Sabha polls.
