Life sentence for Saravana Bhavan owner

Hotel Saravana Bhavan owner P Rajagopal was sentenced to life by the Madras High court today. He was charged of kidnap and murder. Six others were also sentenced to life. The judgment was given by a Division Bench consisting of Justice P K Mishra and R Banumathi.

This judgment came against the appeal of ten years rigorous imprisonment that was given earlier.

Prince Shanta Kumar married to Jeevajyothi was abducted and killed by the hotelier’s henchman in Kodaikanal, it may be recalled. Rajagopal was having an illicit affair with Jeevajothi it is believed. The lady filed a complaint with the police commissioner against Rajagopal. It later came to the notice that the owner of the chain of eatery had illegitimate ties with his employees’ wives. All this came to light when local magazines started to probe the character of Rajagopal.

The court also directed that Rs. 5 million be given to Jeevajothi, the wife of the deceased.
